About Darren

Darren Caplan is the Conservative party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hackney North & Stoke Newington.

He was born in London in 1973 and both grew up and spent much of his life living in North London. He has a degree in political science from Birmingham University, has worked for the Conservative party and – since 2000 – specialised in communications and public affairs. Public and private sector campaigns he has worked on include schools, hospitals and debt management through to cleaner streets, regeneration and digital inclusion. He is currently Director of Public Affairs for a London-based communications agency.

Darren also helps run an amateur Sunday morning football club, which now has four league teams and recruits from across London’s diverse communities. He plays centre-half whenever the teams’ various managers allow him (which is not all that often these days!).

Darren’s experience

As well as being the current PPC for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Darren has been a school governor for a North London JMI school and holds positions on two professional  industry bodies: the Association of Professional Political Consultants management committee and the Public Relations Consultancy Association public affairs group. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Declaration of Interest

The parliamentary Committee on Standards in Public Life has suggested that parliamentary candidates voluntarily complete a Declaration of Interest – see the Ministry of Justice’s giudance, at http://www.justice.gov.uk/guidance/docs/parl-election-candidates-guide.pdf.

Darren has completed a form, hard copies of which are available upon request – see contact details below.
